FAQs
What can I expect during a Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep tissue massage offers more pressure than a traditional massage, and it is often used to target areas that are located under superficial musculature, such as tendons, deep muscles, and fascia. This type of massage can be uncomfortable for some people, while others find it brings them relief from a variety of physical problems.
Can I change the amount of pressure throughout my massage?
With a deep tissue massage, it’s important to communicate with your masseuse. At Skin Spa New York, each masseuse takes some time to talk with the client prior to treatment to get a full picture of any problem areas or injuries that they would like to see addressed during the massage. He or she will also discuss what type of pressure you prefer to make sure the treatment isn’t too painful. This communication will continue throughout the deep tissue massage, and you can feel comfortable at any time asking for less (or more) pressure. Often the massage will begin with lighter pressure to prepare the muscles and body for deeper work.
Why should I get a Deep Tissue Massage?
Not everyone is a good candidate for deep tissue massage therapy, but it can be helpful for many clients with different needs. Those dealing with an injury or people who suffer from chronic pain conditions or extremely tight muscles may benefit from this approach. Everyone’s needs and pain tolerances will be a little bit different.
We only use experienced deep tissue massage professionals to administer this type of treatment. Since this type of massage is often used for therapeutic reasons, it’s important that the masseuse understands how to do this work properly, so the client gets what they need without the risk of unnecessary pain or discomfort.
