How Often Should I Get Microneedling Treatments?

Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, is a booming treatment that offers a variety of benefits for your skin! From treating deep wrinkles to acne scars, this beauty-boosting treatment is NEARLY painless, fast, and gives amazing results!

One of the main questions that our aestheticians get asked is “How often should I get microneedling treatments?” It’s a common question that many people are curious about! Of course, the answer ranges based on your skin, age, and the results you want to see.

So, how often should you get microneedling treatments? The short answer is 2–3 times a year. To start out with, you should get 3–4 treatments spaced out every 4–6 weeks.

For a more in-depth look at how often you should get microneedling treatments, read on! We’ve broken down this treatment to help you understand how often you should get microneedling treatments, whether you’re looking to heal acne scars or reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

To See Results

In order to see results, you should get at least 3–4 microneedling treatments that are spaced out every 4–6 weeks. Due to the nature of the treatment, your skin needs ample time to heal between treatments. For the average person, that will be around the one month mark. You’ll likely notice some immediate improvements after your first treatment, but for best results you should get a total of 3 or 4 treatments.

To Maintain Results

To maintain the results of your initial series of microneedling treatments, you should get treatments 2 or 3 times a year. These maintenance appointments will refresh your skin and help maintain the amazing results you’ve hopefully seen! These appointments, combined with a top-notch skincare routine, will help maintain the results of microneedling.

To Treat Acne Scars

Microneedling does help acne scars, and it’s one of the most effective treatments to heal and reduce the appearance of acne scarring, whether physical pock marks or hyperpigmentation. In order to best treat acnes cars, you should get microneedling treatments as often as previously recommended — 3–4 times spaced out over the course of 4–6 weeks.

However, depending on the severity of your scarring, you may require additional treatments in order to see results. Talk with your aesthetician about a plan that is right for your skin!

To Treat Deep Wrinkles

Many people turn to microneedling to treat other skin problems besides acne scars, such as fine lines or deep wrinkles. To treat deep wrinkles specifically, you will likely need more than the 3–4 initial treatments spaced out over the course of a few months. In addition, because deep wrinkles are usually present on individuals who are older, you might need to space out your treatments more. This is because as you age, your skin naturally heals itself slower, so you will need to give your skin more time to heal after each treatment. As always, talk with your aesthetician about the best treatment plan for your skin!

With Added Benefits of PRP

Coming soon to Skin Spa, our take on a new type of microneedling that incorporates platelet-rich plasma! PRP, more commonly known as blood, is a way to use the body’s naturally occurring substances (platelets and plasma) to significantly target signs of aging and rejuvenate your skin. Microneedling is a great way to open up the skin prior to injecting PRP, stimulating your body toward stronger, younger skin.

So how often should you get microneedling with PRP? Once for a month for three months in a row is the standard timeframe, though as always we recommend that you talk with your aesthetician about the best plan for you.

The results tend to last nine to 18 months, but can even last for up to two years depending upon certain factors unique to each individual. Microneedling with PRP is best used on the face. In addition to fully rejuvenating skin, it is also commonly used to minimize scars.
